• Prominent international and locally respected jurors include Kate Goodwin, Thomas Skeehan, Liane Rossler, Ellie Stathaki, Dale Hardiman, David Meagher, and Dr Nathan James Crane.
The Design Institute of Australia (DIA), Australia's peak national body representing Australia’s designers, today released the first nine out of eighteen jurors invited to judge the prestigious Designers Australia Awards 2022. The DIA's awards are the benchmark for Australian design excellence and are the ultimate accolade for designers backed and endorsed by Australia's only association representing all the design disciplines. Prominent international and locally respected jurors include Kate Goodwin, Thomas Skeehan, Liane Rossler, Ellie Stathaki, Dale Hardiman, and David Meagher.
The Designers Australia Awards were initiated last year after finding an industry void and recognising the need to identify designers and their design process. The awards support Australian emerging and established design communities, both individuals and collectives, the breadth of the design disciplines advocated by the DIA (industrial, interior/architecture, service, fashion, graphic, textile, exhibition, furniture and jewellery design), and bring together Australia's broad design community to celebrate ethical, innovative, and impactful design thinking. The three cross-disciplinary categories—place, use, interact—replace traditional categories.

The highly-respected jurors representing a broad cross-section of the international and local design community include:
• Dr Nathan James Crane
A design academic, writer and media consultant. Initially trained as an interior designer and stylist, Nathan is an award-winning writer and editor on Artichoke, The Adelaide Review, FORM Journal, LUXURY and Marmalade magazines. He is also Deputy Chair of the SA/NT DIA Council.
• Penny Craswell
A Sydney-based writer, specialising in design, interiors, architecture and craft, Penny is known for her blog, The Design Writer; she authored 'Design Lives Here’ and the forthcoming 'Reclaimed: New homes from old’.
• Kate Goodwin
A curator, architect, cultural leader and educator. She is a Professor of Practice in Architecture at the University of Sydney and former Head of Architecture and Heinz Curator at the Royal Academy of Arts in London.
• Dale Hardiman
A Melbourne based designer Dale is the co-founder of furniture and object brand Dowel Jones and collaborative project Friends & Associates. Hardiman explores materials' social, ecological and political life, and in 2021, Hardiman was named 1 of the 100 worldwide game-changers in design by Architectural Digest Italy.
• David Meagher
The editor of The Australian's monthly luxury lifestyle magazine, WISH. He is the author of three books and writes extensively on architecture and design.
• Liane Rossler
An artist, designer, curator, and creative advisor whose work and creative practice intersects art, design and the environment. Alongside her solo practice, she is the founder of Superlocalstudio, a space that enables the creation of thoughtful practices. Liane was co-founder of Dinosaur Designs, and established stores in Sydney, Melbourne and New York. She is a Climate Reality Leader, a 1 Million Women ambassador, and a member of The Voiceless Council.
• Andrew Scott
An educator in industrial design. Andrew has been advising on industrial design, ergonomics, corporate identity and entertainment concepts for clients such as World Expo 88, the Civil Aviation Authority, and Spectra Lighting. He is a senior lecturer at the School of Design, Queensland University of Technology and a Fellow of the DIA.
• Thomas Skeehan
The founder of awarded Skeehan Studio and produces commercial furniture, light and product design, adopting a uniquely considered, material-minded process. Tom is committed to education and regularly presents talks and events encouraging community participation, sharing of ideas, and enjoyment. He is the DIA’s ACT Chair.
• Ellie Stathaki
Based in London, is Architecture Editor at Wallpaper* magazine. She trained as an architect, and after a brief time in architecture practice, she focused on architecture journalism and curating. She has contributed to Blueprint, Financial Times and The Guardian; co-authored New Modern House: Redefining Functionalism, Todd Saunders: Architecture in Northern Landscapes, and The Contemporary House; authored the Wallpaper* City Guides for Antwerp and Athens; and curated exhibitions in London, Athens and Milan.
